Boogie Shoes!!

Hey guys. Sorry this post is a day late. Last week was a POS week. I know I should be positive and focus on the good, but I’m sorry, last week was just a kick in the teeth. So I just needed an extra day to get my crap together. This isn’t a fashion post. This falls under the “I can write whatever I want” category. I hope you don’t mind.

It really was!!!!

So at the beginning of each New Year I make a resolution to learn something new. You know, take a class, learn to knit, blah blah, blah. Somehow this resolution never pans out (mainly because I’d rather just watch TV). Well this past Fall, a friend of mine posted an announcement on FB about a beginners Clogging class being offered at Christy’s Dance Explosion in Garner, NC. My little redneck feet started tapping. I knew I had to give it a go!!!

From September on, we met on Thursday nights for 45 minutes to learn how to clog. I had learned a couple of basic steps back in 5th grade, but come on, that was a loooooong looooooong time ago. I was basically starting from scratch. Christy, the owner of the dance studio, was our instructor, Bless Her Heart!! Let’s just say, that woman has the patience of a saint! She not once lost her cool with us, even when we asked to see a step for the hundredth time.

I don’t know about you, but it’s not often that I’m in a group of folks, and I end up liking every single one of them. Inevitably, someone is gonna be a turd. Nope, not this time. Not one dud in the class. NOT ONE!!! For real!!! We talked, laughed and danced every Thursday night away. It was a hoot I tell ya. A hoot!!!

Back in December we decided as a class that we wanted to participate in Christy’s annual dance recital. Why? Because we are badasses that’s why!!! From then on we started learning our recital dance. Fortunately, we would be shaking our booties to one of my all time favorite songs “Boogie Shoes”. It’s a good thing I love that song, because we heard it at least a thousand times. We practiced and practiced and practiced some more. Again, Christy was nothing but patient. Each week we added a new step or two to the routine. Each week we counted 8 counts till the cows came home. Each week we gained confidence and improved as a class.

All of our hard work finally paid off this past Sunday. Showtime, 3:30. This year’s theme was THE GREATEST SHOW, based on the popular musical/movie “The Greatest Showman”. I have to admit, as our time to take the stage grew closer and closer, my armpits grew wetter and wetter. I had to make several trips to the bathroom too. It turns out, performing in front of a crowd is a great laxative. Lol. Once on stage, we just let go and had a blast!!! I’d forgotten what it was like to have the stage lights on your face and to hear the hoots and hollers from the audience. It’s a thrill ride people! A thrill ride!!!

I am so very thankful I didn’t let this opportunity pass me by. So many times I make one excuse after the other not to try something new. Not to step outside of my comfort zone. Just think what I would have missed out on if I had decided, once again, to just stay home. Life is some kind of short my friends. Go put on your Boogie Shoes and have some FUN!!!

I want to send a special thanks to my friend Angela (Pictured above) for letting me know about this class. I so enjoyed our time together.

If you’re interested in an Adult Dance Class and you live in the Raleigh, Garner, Clayton, etc area, I encourage you to check out Christy’s Dance Explosion. You won’t be disappointed!

Don’t forget to stop back by tomorrow and Friday to hear all about Anjanette and Raenette’s trip to Ireland! You don’t wanna miss it!!!

  1. This is a perfect summation of an amazing year!!! So glad you were by my side… literally, hahahah!

  2. It was awesome ladies… I don’t know you, but several others in the class! Looks like so much fun. What happened to the poor guy who tore something bad on stage?

    1. He tore a hamstring I do believe. He is on crutches but will not require surgery. Such a bummer! His wife Courtney is in our class. Such sweet people. Please pray for a speedy recovery.

  3. I had second thoughts about joining the group. Wondering if I could keep up, if I could remember from one week to the next what was taught. Worried that I would hold up the class . Truth is that I could have never found a more fun loving group of ladies. Christy was an amazing teacher. Always smiling and my word, the most patience! Thanks to all.

  4. This is so awesome. Now why didn’t you tell your family about the recital? You know Grady (and I) would have been there. Don’t you have a video? I bet Clif does. Entertainment for the next family dinner. Proud of you and quite jealous. I wish I had the time to do something like this. I love me some Boogie Shoes too.

  5. Best.class.ever. I honestly didn’t think I’d like clogging this much and it is definitely a good thing I also like the song Boogie Shoes! My favorite part is when you said, “no turds in the class” very, very true! haha I hope all 14 of us move up to the next level!!

  6. What a very cool thing to do. Wow! I want to step outside of my comfort zone, but not this far out. Lol. Funny story!!
