A while back we asked for suggestions for blog topics. Several folks asked us to feature some cool thrift shops in our area, to show people you don’t have to spend a fortune to look sharp. Now I have to admit, I’m not a big thrift shopper. It’s not because I think I’m too good. It’s primarily because I’m lazy. I tend to shop smaller stores where I can walk in, do a once over and know if they have something I dig. I have to be in a special mood to sort through racks and racks of other folks stuff. I have lucked up and found some super cool pieces at thrift stores, but you’ve gotta put in the work. I’m not real big on work. Lol!

Store 1: Fifi’s

So Raenette and I decided to check out a couple of Thrift Stores in Raleigh. Our first stop was FiFi’s in Cameron Village. It’s a bit higher end than your average thrift store. This was only my second visit to FiFi’s, but I’ll be checking it out again soon. As you can see from the pics above, it is well organized and offers a variety of designer names. If Lily Pulitzer is your thing, you’ll definitely want to check this place out.

Today was just not my day at FiFi’s. I hate when that happens. Everything I tried on looked like poop. The top in the first picture above had a cute cut, but the color looked like death on me. The second Top had a cute print, but the fit was all wrong. I mean you could look through one armhole and see straight through to the other. Nope, not for me. I got so excited when I saw this adorable little WHITE, PEPLUM, RUFFLED top. What could go wrong?? Uhhhh, it made my boobs look like they were hanging to my belly button. Damnit!!! Oh well. Did I really need another white, peplum top?? Yes, yes I did!

I’d like to say we left, got in our car and drove to the next thrift store. That’s what I’d like to say. But y’all know me better than that. On top of cool thrift stores, Cameron Village has some of the best little boutiques. It would have been rude not to check them out. I may or may not have found a few items, but that’s for another time. Raenette did find the perfect pair of booty shorts! Check em out!! She’s gonna rock those at the Wal Mart in Clayton! Lol!

Store 2: Uptown Cheapskate

Once we finally did get in our car, we drove on over to Uptown Cheapskate in Raleigh’s Mission Valley. It’s located across from NCSU, so the clothes tend to be more on the trendy side. It’s organized by color vs. size, which I kind of dig. Overall, it’s definitely worth a visit for more casual finds.

Today was not a bang up day at Upscale either. I weeded through rack after rack of clothes and only came up with one top, one dress and one sweater. The first little gray top fit well and was not a bad basic top. It just didn’t trip my trigger. I vowed to stop buying clothes that were just ho-hum. So this one went back on the rack. Now this little white dress was adorable. Why, you may ask, is there not a picture of me in that dress?? Weeeelllll it may be because I couldn’t get it above my freakin hips! I don’t know in what country this dress is a Medium, but it’s not in a country where people actually go through puberty. So after dislocating my shoulders to get back out of this dress, it went back to the rack as well. Ugh! But all was not lost.

This little sweater was my only find of the day. Uh, let me rephrase that. It was my only thrift find of the day. It’s a cute little mesh number that will be perfect for Summer wear. And it only set me back $10!!! And yes, I’m fully aware that I’m in desperate need of a Cami under it. What, you don’t like my belly button peeking through?? And no I’m not expecting our 3rd child. I swear that’s just the angle of the picture.

So while I didn’t have much luck today, I know thrift shopping requires persistence. I have friends that find beautiful things at GoodWill and other thrift stores. It does not cost a fortune to dress well and look pulled together. It does, however, take some effort. You’re so worth the effort!

Raenette had a bit more luck than I. She will be sharing her finds on Friday. We would love to hear about any Thrift Stores that you frequent. Please drop in the Comments below. Come back Wednesday when Anjanette will be sharing her thrift finds!! Have a great week!!!

  1. Rockin the Walmart – haha! Thank you – i had forgotten about the Fifis in Cornelius. I may go there for a dress for graduation. I’m not a Lilly Pulitzer fan (almost died buying my daughter’s dress there) but maybe i can find a solid color one and please my kid?!

  2. I was literally 😂 on an airplane reading this! You crack me up! I love the thrift stores or “consignment” shops! They are great for kids items especially! We have one in Cornelius that was called Fifi’s, but they changed the name to Flair Trade. Looking forward to seeing what Anjanette found!
