I cannot tell you how good it is to see the sun again!!! Don’t get me wrong, I am one of those wierdos that loves a nice rainy weekend. But, I’m NOT big on trees falling on me while I am all cozied up inside my house. Nor do I like having to swim through floodwaters to get to work. I prefer just a regular old rainy day.
What is a girl to do to keep herself busy during a hurricane? Organize her closet, of course! Well, at least think about organizing her closet. While pretending to be productive, I found 5 or 6 pieces of clothing that every girl should have in her closet.
The first thing is an all season proper church dress (Similar Here and Here). You know what I mean? No cleavage hanging out. Length at or below your knee. Not a club dress. You don’t want to have to go shopping when your Great Uncle Bubba kicks the bucket or when your best friend gets hitched for the fourth time. You need one or two dresses that will carry you through any and all situations. I have worn this number to 3 funerals, a Bat Mitzvah, and an impromptu wedding. Now that’s what I call versatile.
My next closet staples are a beautiful tunic (Similar Here) and a great pair of leggings. Just throw them on, add a pair of boots or flats and out the door you go. No hard work. No over thinking it. It’s just an easy and pulled together outfit. Isn’t that what we all want?
Another integral part of every woman’s wardrobe is a denim shirt dress and a boyfriend cardigan. This shirt dress silhouette is flattering on all body types. You can either pick a darker wash for a more sophisticated look or go with a light wash for a more Western vibe. I reach for a boyfriend sweater almost everyday once the weather gets cool. I rarely need a heavy coat any more thanks to my internal furnace. A sweater is just enough for me these days. I picked this one up from Madewell last year when it went on sale. It is a nice weight and has little specks of color throughout that makes it so very versatile.
To add a little bit of badass to even the most mundane ensemble, you have GOT to get yourself a faux or genuine leather moto jacket. You can pick one up anywhere from Target to Nordstroms. Honestly, I have worn my $40 faux jackets more than my far pricier ones. Black is the most basic of moto jacket colors, but you can pick from pastel to fire engine red. Go with what makes you feel your hottest self. You will find yourself reaching for it over and over again.
My last closet must haves are my boots. You knew I couldn’t do a must haves post and not include my all time favorite footwear. They are to me what stripes are to Antoinette. Every single one of you should invest in a great pair of brown and black riding and or cowboy boots. With the proper care and upkeep, they will last you a lifetime. What other piece of clothing or shoe can you say that about? Boots are the one thing I am snobby about. Believe me when I tell you, there is a huge difference in the look and feel of fake-vs-real leather boots. I will carry a $15 pocketbook and wear $30 jeans, but my boots are gonna be legit! They are what I choose to invest my money in because I know they will never go out of style.
So to review, you need to buy the following IMMEDIATELY:
- A nice church dress
- A beautiful Tunic
- A great pair of leggings
- A denim shirtdress
- A neutral colored boyfriend cardigan
- A leather jacket
- Lots and Lots of REAL LEATHER boots and booties
Don’t you just love a good excuse to go shopping?
